Nuno Gonçalves participates in the conference-debate “IA – Um modelo de governance e uma estratégia para Portugal”

Prof. Nuno Gonçalves attended the conference-debate “IA – Um modelo de governance e uma estratégia para Portugal” on October 4, 2024, at the Salão Nobre of the Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda, as a coordinator of the conference and a member of the “Artificial Intelligence” Mission Group of APDSI (Association for the Promotion and Development of the Information Society).

The event, organized by APDSI, brought together experts, representatives from public and private institutions to discuss the implementation of a governance model and a national strategy for AI. During the conference, topics such as AI regulation, the need for a coordinated agenda between the public and private sectors, and the importance of aligning efforts to promote the country’s innovation and modernization through effective coordination between different entities, encouraging the creation of an aligned agenda for AI development in Portugal, were addressed. Besides the debate, Prof. Nuno also participated in both the opening and closing sessions.

The Portuguese state entities with relevance in governance marked presence in the conference, including the AMA (Agency for Administrative Modernization) and ANI (National Agency for Innovation). Notably, the conference was also attended by members of the Portuguese government, including Prof. Margarida Balseiro Lopes, Minister of Youth and Modernization, and Prof. Doutora Ana Paiva, State Secretary for Science.
